The Wisconsin National Guard is honored to be part of Rhythm and Booms again this year and will help kick off the fireworks with an F-16 fighter jet fly-over courtesy of the Air National Guard's Madison-based 115th Fighter Wing. Soldiers from the Wisconsin Army Guard will man 105-mm howitzers throughout the day, providing cannon salutes at the top of each hour leading up to the fireworks show and for the rousing finale, Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture."
The Wisconsin National Guard is a proud part of America's oldest armed force, and answers to both the governor and the president of the United States. Currently about 400 Wisconsin Guard members are on active duty, mostly in Iraq. The remaining 9,500 Soldiers and Airmen, men and women, are standing by here in Wisconsin ready to respond in the event of a natural or man-made disaster, or other emergencies within America's borders or anywhere in the world. Always ready, always there - that is the Wisconsin National Guard.

"The City of Madison routinely wins awards for being the most livable city in the country. They laud our strengths, from our beautiful parks and extensive bike paths to our excellent schools and strong economy. But we cannot become complacent, we should actively work to build our high quality of life and to protect our environment, create jobs and grow a healthy economy. Working together with neighborhoods, businesses and citizens we can make Madison the healthiest and most progressive city in our nation."
- Mayor Dave Cieslewicz
